Being Made and Why it Matters

Dr. Kirsten Sanders

The Church’s Many Neighbors:

Christian Witness Amidst Globalization, Nationalism, and Secularism

Dr. Myles Werntz

Answering the second greatest commandment of Jesus requires being able to name the dynamics of who are various neighbors are, and how we are related to them. In this course, we will explore the various tensions and complications which emerge as Christians seek to answer the question “Who is my neighbor?”, across global, national, and local divisions.

Beyond Complementarianism and Egalitarianism: Male and Female in Christ

Dr. Wesley Hill

That human creatures were created male and female is a basic biblical affirmation. Yet what this means remains a source of deep confusion and contention in the local church. This course aims to analyze the biblical material relevant to women’s participation in the local church. We will address cultural concerns about “gender roles” and gender stereotypes and examine the New Testament passages that speak about male and female relationships in marriage. The goal is to move participants beyond the narrow constructions of complementarianism and egalitarianism toward a vision of men and women’s full participation in ministry. An initial consult will be required with pastoral staff before designing the course to ensure that the Collective’s theological positions are in line with the teaching of the host church.

Note: The Collective is wholeheartedly in support of women’s ordination but is comfortable teaching in churches or denominations where this question is contested

Reconstructing Faith

Dr. Kirsten Sanders

This course is aimed at Christians who are struggling to remain Christian. We examine some of the chief doctrinal concerns that younger Christians encounter and seek to reframe them within the tradition of Christian teaching.
